Ann LaVerne Reeder, 91, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, in Abilene.
Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, May 22, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 23 at Broadview Baptist Church with Bro. David Cason officiating. Entombment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Ann was born in Idabel, McCurtain County, Oklahoma on June 2, 1930, to Roy and Nancy Oleta (Jones) Gills. They moved to Mission, TX when she was 5 years old. She graduated as Valedictorian from Sharyland High School. After high school, Ann attended Durham Business College. On March 11, 1950, she married J.T. Reeder in Corpus Christi, TX. She worked as a secretary and later as an administrative assistant for Ambassador Oil, later named Anadarko, for 17 years. She then went on to work for Onyx Oil Co. and retired from Adobe Oil Co. after 10 years. Ann was an original member of the Taylor County Young Republicans, and she was a member of Beta Sigma Fi, Desk & Derrick, Christian Women’s Club, and the Thursday Morning Book Club. In 2004, she founded the Rambling Red Roses, a chapter of the Red Hat Club of Abilene, which is still active today. She stepped down as president last year.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Oleta Gills; husband, J.T. Reeder; brother, Kenneth Gills; daughter-in-law, Linda Reeder, and great-grandchildren, Robert and Hannah.
She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, David (Denise) Reeder, Donald (Ruby) Reeder, and Ricky Reeder; four grandchildren, Michael Reeder, Angela Reeder, Jordan Reeder, and Casi Hutcherson; eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Seth, Blain, Kylee Ann, Aiden, Reyna, Gage, and Paisley.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Gills, Seth Templeton, Simone Beard, Michael Reeder, Sonny Mauldin, and Stevie Williams.
