Obituary

Allen Wayne Raughton, 82, of Abilene, passed away on August 4, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, with Mike Raughton officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Allen was born in Abilene, Texas, on January 30, 1944, to Gene and Ruth Raughton. He attended school in Wylie. He married Ruthie Hollowell on December 10, 1988, in Abilene.

Allen was a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Navy for 28 years. During his military career, he received seven Good Conduct Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, one Navy Commendation Medal, two Navy Unit Commendations, and one Meritorious Unit Commendation.

He served as an officer with the Disabled American Veterans and as director of the Abilene chapter of the American Red Cross. He was also a member of Grace Tabernacle.

Following his military service, Allen attended the Golf Academy of San Diego, where he earned an Associate of Applied Business degree in Golf Complex Operations and Management, with an emphasis in golf professional and general management. He later earned an associate degree in Biblical Studies from GPS Seminary.

Allen had a profound impact on the people who knew and loved him. He left a piece of himself with each of them, and his passing has left many feeling that they have lost a piece of themselves as well. Although his light was extinguished on August 4, the love, memories, and influence he shared will remain. He is gone, but certainly not forgotten.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Ruth Raughton; his brother, Phil Raughton; his brother-in-law, Ronnie White; his sister-in-law, Betty Raughton; and his grandson, Larry Wayne West.

He is survived by his wife, Ruthie Raughton; his children, Cheri Erickson and husband David, Allen Logue and wife Andrea, Derek and Venus Raughton, Felicia West and husband Button, Denise Almendarez, Katrice Gray and husband Teddy, and sister Patricia White; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the staff of Mesa Springs and West Texas Hospice, with special thanks to Shala West, Marcie Evert, and Ashley Worley.
