Mrs. Alice Leverta Moses was born on November 21, 1929 in Palestine, Texas. She was the fourth of five children born to Prella Hollie Sr. and Laura Davison Hollie. She spent her formative years in Palestine where after the death of her mother, Laura, she and her siblings were raised by her stepmother, Adeline Bowser Hollie. Alice attended Flint High School in the Palestine area. She married Detroit Moses in 1947. Her life fulfillment came with the birth of their only child Delores (Dee).
She was a faithful member of Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas for many years. She served (until she became ill) on the Usher Board, sung in the choir, worked in the kitchen or wherever she was needed. She loved her Church, her pastor and her family. As a result of illness, Alice relinquished her cherished independence and moved to Abilene in 2007 to live with her daughter. She immediately united with New Light Baptist Church under watch care.
Alice loved to cook. She enjoyed cooking for the Priddy family, Schalk family and especially her baby "Dee". She was known for her fried chicken. Alice loved wearing tailored suits, beautiful hats and three inch high heels, which she wore up until her legs were amputated in 2007.
In spite of major illness, numerous surgeries, i.e. the loss of her legs, her trust in God never wavered, her spirit was never one of dismay or hopelessness, her attitude was never negative. She often stated "this is the road God chose for me to travel, and as a result I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me". Her joy for life was contagious. She had the gift of friendship.
Her parents, Prella and Laura Hollie, her siblings, Bernice Campbell, General Lee Hollie, Izola Kindle and Prella Hollie Jr. preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Delores (Dee) Moore, of Abilene; one granddaughter, Kelli McDonald and husband Damion; two great-grandsons, Grayson and Ian, all of Grand Prairie, Texas; one sister, Jometria Ware, of Crocket, Texas; one brother, Phillip Wiley, of Dallas, Texas; one uncle, Myrt Hollie, of Palestine, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
