SFC (Ret) Adam Flores, 83, of Abilene and formerly of Merritt Island, Florida, passed away on 13 November 2014. He was surrounded by his family and died peacefully at home. The family will receive friends at a visitation at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene on Sunday, November 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 17, followed by interment at 1 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Adam was born in Somerset, Texas 09 November 1931 to Adalina and George Flores. He enlisted in the Navy in 1950 serving on the USS Toledo and participated in the battle of Inchon. He then left the Navy and joined the US Army in 1954 serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1972. He married Rosemarie Grassa on 11 September 1969. After retiring from the Army, he moved to Merritt Island, Florida where he worked at the Kennedy Space Center and then at Jones Machine Shop before retiring in 1993. Adam was an active volunteer with Hospice, Meals on Wheels, the Lions Club, and the American Red Cross. He was the Retired Activities Officer at Hurlbert Field and played Taps at military funerals in the Fort Walton Beach Area. He was also a member of American Legion, VFW and DAV in Abilene. Adam is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie, daughters Belinda Garza and her husband Henry, Brenda Galvan and her husband Joe, Diana Hall and her husband Roger, and Eva Foster and her husband Clint. Survivors also include his sister Eva Davila of Austin, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Lady. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Brother George, and Sister Dora. Pallbearers will be Michael Garza, George Garza, JoeAdam Galvan, Philip Galvan, Tyler Hall, and Tristian Pelitire. Memorial contributions may be made to Founders Lions Club in Abilene.
