H.B. was born on May 24, 1927 in Trent, Texas to parents Homer B. Terry, Sr. and Jeffie Howell Terry. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1945 and then served in the US Navy at the end of World War II on a minesweeper in the Pacific. He married Faye Tarrant at the First United Methodist Church in Clyde on February 8, 1947. H.B. attended The Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and graduated on June 1, 1947. His first professional position as a licensed funeral director and embalmer was with the Wylie Funeral Home in Baird. H.B. felt the call to surrender his life to the ministry January 15, 1953. He graduated from Hardin-Simmons University on June 1, 1958 with a major in Bible and a minor in Sociology. He also studied Theology and Religious Education at Southwestern Baptist Seminary. H.B. pastored Baptist churches in Aspermont, Clyde, Tuscola, and Eastland; and most recently Temple Baptist Church where he served 16 years. After 30 years of pastoring, H.B. went back into the funeral profession and has been with the Hamil Family since June 1, 1982. H.B. and Faye have one son, Homer Terry, III, who is a retired school administrator; and one grandson, Ben Terry.
